How to Get the FSSAI License?

FSSAI is also termed as Food Safety and Standards Authority of India who governs the food business in India. It is government body which under the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has been established under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 which is a consolidating law related to food safety & regulation in India.

It is essential for all the FBO apart from small-scale business to obtain FSSAI License. FSSAI and State Food Authorities are jointly responsible for the execution and enforcement of FSSAI. There are two types of FSSAI license, first one is the Central FSSAI license and the second one is State FSSAI license.

State FSSAI License

The State FSSAI licenses are essential for the manufacturers, storage, transporters, retailers, marketers, distributors, etc. State FSSAI Licenseis issued by the concerned State Authorities in each state.

Central FSSAI License

It is issued by the FSSAI Regional Offices which are functioning across the nation. Central FSSAI Licensecan be issued and renewed for a period of 1 to 5 years.

What is the Eligibility for FSSAI Central License?

  1. Dairy units which include milk chilling units furnished to handle & process.
  2. Vegetable oil processing units.
  3. Vegetable oil units that produce vegetable oil by the process of solvent extraction.
  4. Refineries that includes oil expeller unit.
  5. Slaughtering units.
  6. Meat processing units.
  7. Food processing units that include relabellers and repackers.
  8. Proprietary foods.
  9. 100% export-oriented units.

What are the Required Documents for FSSAI Central License?

The required documents for obtaining Central FSSAI license are given below: –

  1. Form-B duly completed and signed by the proprietor or owner.
  2. Blueprint or layout of the location.
  3. Contact details of the Directors.
  4. The list and details of the equipment and machinery types.
  5. Proprietor’s photo ID & address proof issued by the Government of India.
  6. Analysis of water report from a recognised/public health laboratory.
  7. Proof of possession of premises.
  8. Pesticide residues report of water in case of units manufacturing mineral or carbonated water from recognised/public health.
  9. NOC and copy of the license from the manufacturer.
  10. Food Safety Management System plan or certificate.
  11. Source of milk, if applicable.
  12. Source of meat and meat processing units, if applicable.
  13. NOC from the municipality and local body, if applicable.
  14. MCA Incorporation Certificate, if applicable.
  15. If applicable, supporting proof of turnover.
  16. NOC/PA issued by FSSAI
  17. IE Code issued by DGFT for importers.
  18. A Certificate provided by Ministry of Tourism, if applicable.
  19. Supporting proof of turnover for vehicles, if applicable.
  20. FSSAI Declaration Form.

What are the required Documents for FSSAI License for state?

  1. Form-B- Which is duly signed by the proprietor.
  2. Blueprint or layout of the area location.
  3. Contact details of the directors.
  4. List and details – equipment and Machinery type.
  5. Proprietor’s photo ID and address proof issued by the Government of India.
  6. Authority letter with the name and address of the responsible person.
  7. Proof of possession of premises.
  8. Partnership affidavit of proprietorship.
  9. NOC and Copy of License from the manufacturer.
  10. Food Safety Management System Plan or certificate.

What are the Procedures for Obtaining FSSAI Registration?

  1. FSSAI registration is started by submitting Form A which is application form, to the Food and Safety Department.
  2. This application can be accepted, or it may be rejected by the Department within 7 days from the date of receipt of an application and the rejection need to be intimated to the applicant in writing
  3. When the application is accepted, then the department will provide a registration certificate with the registration number & the photo of the applicant.
  4. FBO should particularly display the certificate of registration at the place of business during the business hours.
  5. The common documents required for Basic, State and Central Registration are a passport photo and a photo ID proof.
